Stephen,
You can start the scheduler from the STARTUP.CMD file. Just add a line:
start /min c:\adsm\dsmc.exe sched (Change the drive/directory where you
installed ADSM as appropriate)
That will start an OS/2 window, minimized, with the ADSM scheduler process
running. I'd recommend having it first, so that if anything else fails to
start, your backups will still run.
