Kelly,

Domino ist the official name for the newer, internet enabled versions of
the Lotus Notes Server. Backing up Domino is based on the same discussions
you have to go through whenever you have to backup an application that is
online 24h a day (most of the Domino servers I know are supposed to be
24x7). The problem ist that Domino always accesses some databases (to name
the names.nsf and the log.nsf especially) and ADSM is not capable of making
a "good" backup of those open databases.

So the ADSM guys invented the ADSMConnect Agent for Lotus Notes/Domino but
that one is onla available for AIX and NT (AFAIK) and is very slow.

A feasible solution to do a "good" backup is:
1. build up a second Domino server
2. replicate all stuff between first and second server
3. stop the second server, perform "normal" ADSM file backup for the
databases
4. restart second server

In order to reduce the downtime you can also copy the always-open databases
on the OS level, then start Domino immediataley and perform the backup on
the "cold" copies.

BTW Notes/Domino V5 is supposed to have a "backup-API" that will make it
easier for tools like ADSM to perform good and quick backups.

Mit freundlichem Gruss/Best Regards

Anybody figured a good way to backup Domino on an HP-UX system? What about
Domino in general? Is Domino a fancy name for Notes?

Thanks,
