     Johan,

I haven't had the pleasure of using that particular driver yet, but I
did get clean result with these driver versions,

AIC78xx.sys, 67024 bytes, 15/9/97 (ddmmyy) (supplied with the Adaptec
V5 CD) and 66992 bytes, 1/7/97 (supplied by HP for its latest
     machines).

I tried the latest of the WEB Adaptec NT drivers, but immediately ran
into problems with adsmscsi not seeing LB1.0.0.1.

beware, I've only had problems where it concerns adsmscsi not
     detecting the library.

     regards, groeten,

     Walter Ridderhof (ridderw.xs4all.nl)

Hi all,

We also have several problems with our MagStar 3570 in combination of a Adaptec
AHA2944 adapter.
We are using under Windows NT 4.0 the following driver:
Name : AIC78xx.SYS
Size : 67.184 bytes
Version : 2.11S3

Does anyone have experience with that driver ?

with kind regards, / met vriendelijke groeten,

     Michael,

your problem with the adsmscsi isn't local to the 3570, I've had the
same problems on an ADIC 458 with an LH Pro 3 and Adaptec AHA2940 scsi
card. I haven't been able to pinpoint the cause of the problem but I'm
getting suspicious about the drivers used to drive the scsi card(s).
After a hardware switch we started getting problems as you described.
The only way to get the library visible was to bring down the tape unit
and NT system (like lights out), do some twiggling with the cables
(very pro like) and restart everything (tapeunit first). The tape unit
would then be recognized by adsmscsi.sys. Later I found out that the
person's responsible for installing the NT machine used (outdated 1996)
Adaptec drivers found on the hardware manufacturers install CD. I have
configurations running the same hardware but using the latest V5
release Adaptec drives and up till now haven't seen any adsmscis
     errors.

     regards, groeten,

     Walter Ridderhof

Hi!

Some days ago I complained about my ongoing Problems with our 3570. An IBM
CE came in today and changed some parts.
He also put us to the latest Microcode Level.

Now the library is capable of running the Power-On-Self-Test without any
problems. Still ADSM is refusing to use the lib as we see
a lot of SCSI errors in the Windows NT Event Log. The error displayed is:

"The description for Event ID ( 11 ) in Source ( AdsmScsi ) could not be
found. It contains the following insertion string(s): \Device\lb0.1.0.1."

Any ideas on that? We think about exchanging the SCSI Controller in our NT
box but is there something I can do before that?

Mit freundlichem Gruss/Best Regards
