Hi Betsy,

We currently have three Adsm servers - not really because of load
on the Adsm server side but more because of network bandwidth
limitations. The bulk of our backup clients throw their data at MVS Os/390.
We have close on 200 clients with a mix of AIX/Sun/NT/95/98/Novell/OS2.
The database size on MVS is 8Gig at 83% utilization.
The two NT ADSM servers have 1 Gig db's respectively with about 5-10%
in use.
The two servers running NT have a exabyte 220 ATL and mammoth
drives. They backup a mix of NT/AIX/Sun/Novell/OS2.
The main reason why we move the most data to MVS is that we already have
electronic vaulting in place for our off-site tapes and DB backups. This
makes
it so much easier in case of a disaster than compared to an NT machine
standing in a remote location - having a administrator sending tapes
off-site
etc.

As far as the administration of these remote boxes are concerned it actually
works
much better than I thought. As far as the server-server communication is
concerned
it will make our lives much better once our ATM network is rolled out to
these remote
areas - (can't wait).

Hope this answers some of the questions you might have.
If not - let me know.

Our environment:

V2 ADSM Server on VM
V2 and V3 Clients on Windows 95, NT, Netware
Two ADSM servers

The idea was brought up here today that perhaps it would be a good idea to
have more ADSM servers and "spread the load" so to speak over a broader
area. It was thought that perhaps it might be more efficient processing.
Since we lost our database once and we have approximately 500 workstations
for one server, I thought of it in terms of reducing the impact of such
disasters. Also, as our database grows, querying it can be a very slow
process sometimes.

If any of you have multiple server setups or just thoughts on multiple
server
setups I'd appreciate any input you might have as to the pros and cons.

Thanks.
