Michael,

It does not sound like you have the options set up to wait
for tape mounts.  Bring up the Exchange GUI client, select the
desired ADSM server on the "Backup Tab", and press the
"Edit" button to bring up the "Exchange Agent Options File Editor".

Make sure you have the "Wait for Tape Mounts" checkbox selected.
That tells the Exchange Agent to wait for tape mounts if
they are required.

Then, retry your backup.
