If you confiure shared mem the loopback adapter ist used.
Focus your performance trace on this adapter.

Hi all,
I'm running an ADSM Server for AIX 3.1.0.5 with a AIX Client 3.1.0.5 on
the same machine (wide node in a SP2 Frame, 512 MB, two way cpu).
I'm about trying to find out the performance values for running backups
via LAN, SP switch or shared memory. What I can see sor far is, that the
values for data transfer time (237,66 sec. for LAN, 120,01 sec. for SP
switch and 116,78 sec. for SHRMem) and network data transfer rate
(7.552,98 KB/s for LAN, 13.166,70 KB/s for Sp switch and 13.254,57 KB/s)
form the client statistics differ. But the elapsed processing times are
close together (11:58 LAN, 11:49 SP switch and 12:18).
I'm backing up 8 files (mksysb images of the other SP2 nodes, located
within a filesystem at the ADSM machine) with about 1,5 GB. Every file
is about 250 MB. The LAN connection is a fddi 100 Mbit/s connection .The
ADSM Server is still in a testing state and the AIX client is the only
cleint so far.
Any idea, why the processing times are so close together? Is there a way
from where I can see that SHRMem is being used for backup?
TIA
Rainer
