A remote inventory is possible, with a little tool, it's DCAF and

it's supported for the ATL.

To check out if a operator intervention is requiered, type the following

command: mtlib -l /dev/lmcpX -qL

The ATL will show you a complete status and in the first to lines you get

the information if the operator intervention is requiered.

If you put the inacessable tape in the error recovery cell the ATL solve
        this

problem in 90% of these problems.

P.S. We got this problem too. If you can't solve the problem in this

way there is also a other way.

I've seen this when a drive has failed to unload.  There would be an
operator intervention required in that case...
