Question: I'm performing full backups of an Exchange server on a weekly
basis with incremental backups daily (of both the Directory and the
Information Store databases). Before the full backup kicks off, I'm
shutting down the Exchange servers and making an off-line copy of all of the
EDB's and existing logs.

Now, the restore scenario that I'll be following most of the time will be to
use the off-line copies of the EDB's and logs if possible (assuming I've not
lost all the disks in the server -- if I have, then I'll restore the full
backup from ADSM), and then restore the incrementals from ADSM that have
occurred since the off-line copies were made (which was right before the
full backup). So, my question revolves around the state of the various logs
that may come into play.

When a full backup is created, the logs for the Exchange databases are
truncated to set a new backup context. Does the full backup that exists on
ADSM consist of the appropriate EDB AND its logs? Or are the logs all
committed to the EDB (as part of the backup) before the EDB is actually
backed up?

If I lose an EDB and try to restore, can I successfully put the off-line
copies of the EDB and logs back in place, run "isinteg -patch", bring the
Exchange services back on-line, and then do restores of the incrementals to
date from ADSM? Will the log files all be correctly replayed and restored?

Thanks for any info!
