Hi Rose,

The activity log and dsmsched.log file are the best places to look when trying
to diagnose this kind of problem:

1) When you say the nodes missed, do you mean that QUERY EVENT says "MISSED"
for the completion status? If not, what does QUERY EVENT show for these nodes?

2) Examine the client's DSMSCHED.LOG file. When the scheduler is started, it
should query the server for the next scheduled event and display the
information. What does it show for the next scheduled event? Also, after
displaying the event info, does it say "waiting to be contacted by server",
"schedule will be refreshed in <n> hours", "no schedule returned from server",
or something else? If it says "no schedule returned from the server", then you
need to associate the node with the schedule via the DEFINE ASSOC admin
command. If it says "schedule will be refreshed in <n> hours, then maybe that
timeframe occurred after the schedule window elapsed. Lastly, look for any
other messages that might indicate a problem.

3) Examine the ADSM activity log starting from the time the scheduled event is
supposed to start, and look for information pertaining to the problem nodes. If
you have SCHEDMODE PROMPTED set for the client, look for messages indicating
that the server is trying to prompt the client. What do these messages show?

I can't provide anything more solid than this, but hopefully this will give you
a good starting point.

Subject: v3 clients status of missing

Hi all,

I have an NT 4.0 server with ADSM v3.0. All of my nodes are NT v3 (latest
version) clients.

My problem is that several of my nodes are missing. I have verified that
the schedule is running on all of them, so ADSM should do the backup at the
scheduled time, unless the machine is turned off, which they are not. Is
there any other reason that a node would miss?

Three of these are also running the ADSMConnect Agent for Exchange.

Thanks for your help,
