Hi Kelly,

"It Depends" (Don't you hate it when you hear that?!?)
First, I don't know what DTELM is. But I do know this:

With ADSM V2, a 3rd party product called ADSM Enhanced Server was required
to support the 9710. We run STK's ACSLS (which is server software for the
robot) on an AIX host, and ADSM talks to ACSLS via the Enhanced Server code,
which I think turns ADSM robot commands into RPC calls that go to ACSLS, or
something like that.

Starting with ADSM V3, you can run an STK9710 with ADSM using only the IBM
drivers, OR you can use ADSM V3 and talk to the 9710 via ACSLS.

Which is better? That depends too, of course.

With ADSM and the IBM SCSI drivers only, your configuration gets simplified.
(I haven't done it yet, but hope to try it out in the next 6 months.)

With ADSM and ACSLS, there are more configurations you can support.

You MUST have ACSLS, for example, if:
* You have mixed drive types (Both 3490 and DLT, for example) in the
9710
* The drives (and therefore ACSLS) are attached to a different machine
than the ADSM host
* You want ADSM to share the 9710 with other applications (I think
this requires ACSLS, but I'm not positive)

Also, some 9710's use a serial bus for the robot and a SCSI bus for the
drives - don't know if that has implications for the IBM drivers or not.

Anyway, those are some of the things you have to check into.
Hope this helps...
