I've got a Sun machine running Solaris 2.5 (not 2.5.1). The v3 client
software won't install on the machine because it "requires" Solaris
2.5.1....

Has anybody had any success running the v3 client on a Solaris 2.5
machine??

Tom,

I have not run the version 3 client on Solaris 2.5.1; however I have a fair
amount of experience working with "non-supported" versions of Operating
Systems. Remember in ADSM Support terminology, not supported means not
tested. I have generally had success in running Solaris executables between
similar revisions of the OS. I have used the both the ADSM v2 and v3
clients to backup 2.6 machines. I also used the v2 client to backup 2.5.1
systems before they were "supported". I should note that except for a few
exceptions with other OSs, I have always tested newer revisions.

To test if the client will run on Solaris 2.5, you will first need to
install the client on a supported (2.5.1) machine. You will then need to
copy the executable libraries to the "unsupported machine". You will need
to rebuild the links in a global directory if you want access from all
directories. After this you are ready to test. I generally test
backup/restore and archive/retrieve. I would not have a lot of confidence
in testing HSM, but it may be worth a try if you need it.

Please let me on whether your testing is successful or not.
