Will we be able to restore docs using the 5.0 agent, that were backed up
with the 4.0 agent?

Dave,

There will be a new Lotus Notes Agent (for Lotus Notes 5.0) coming out in
the
1st Qtr 1999 which replaced the current Lotus Notes agent (for Lotus Notes
4.X). The two Lotus Notes agents will be totally incompatible since the 5.0
Lotus backup API will use the transaction logs to do incremental backup.
This
feature is not available in version 4.X. Full backup for the current Lotus
agent will back up each document (including design forms, views and
folders)
inside a database as a single object. So you can have tons of objects
created
for each database on the server. The new 5.0 Lotus agent will only create 2
objects instead on the server, the entire image of the database and the
patch
file for changes made during the backup. As you see there is nothing in
common
for these two agents and thus my management team decide not to spend too
much
resource on the enhancements of the current product and concentrate our
resource on the new agent.
