Thanks for the info...I called Seagate...it appears that OPEN/stor is
now Storage Migrator 2.5 (version 2.5 includes the ADSM option as part
of the base product). Looks like there may be an option for those that
want the function now and choose not to wait for NT 5...

Hi Julie!
IBM has got a ADSM developer permanently located at Microsoft.
I've been told by IBM (and I also read about it, but I can't
remember if it
was a publication on the ADSM home page or a publication called
ADSM
Offbeat) that the new HSM function that will be implemented in
Windows NT
5.0 will be compatible with the ADSM API.
Kindest regards,
Eric van Loon

I have the impression after talking with someone at Seagate,
that Open/Stor
is gone. (I had received the trial version too). They have a
Storage
Migrator thing that works with Seagate's BackupExec, but you
have to run
backupexec on your NT boxes instead or along with ADSM. It
sounds like
they are working with Microsoft to build HSM into NT5.0.
This sounds like it leaves ADSM out of the picture all together.
So the
future, it looks like to me, is no ADSM-HSM capability for NT or
Novell.
Does anyone see it differently? IBM, can you tell us? IBM
used to say
they were doing HSM for unix, but if you wanted it for Novell or
NT, you
were to go to their business partner, the AVAIL/HSM, OPENStor
company
which was acquired by Eastman Software a year or 2 ago I think.
SO what do we do for NT or Novell HSM to ADSM? Nothing?
Thanks for any insight, IBM or anyone,
Julie
