     Hi all-

We are planning to move our AIX server to a new machine as well. Easy
     as 1-2-3 (sort of). Here's my methodology/madness:

     1. I have put all ADSM disk storage pools, db's and log spaces in ONE
     volume group exclusive for adsm.

     2. The disks comprising this VG are all SSA in ONE loop. Again if it
isn't ADSM it's not in the VG.

     3. Move day becomes:
Old machine: shutdown adsm, export the adsm VG, disconnect SSA loop
New machine: connect SSA loop, cfgmgr, import VG.

     The other work:
     Pre-install adsm on new machine.
Move/dup connections for 3494 (drives 3490e/scsi, library mgr)
     Configure lmcpd on new machine.
PRESERVE/COPY THESE 4 CRITICAL SERVER FILES to new machine (learned
this the hard way from the recent upgrade to V3):
                dsmserv.dsk
                dsmserv.opt
                vol.hist
                device.conf
Redirect clients to new machine (DNS update)

     Start ADSM server.
     Punt!
     Have a few pints!

Did I miss something, anyone see any flaws?

     Thanks,
     Al Barth

if you design the storage, db, & log the same (size and name) on the
new machine you should be able to (from a backup db) perform a restore
db and then simply start the server.

I will soon be move my ADSM sever from one AIX machine to another. I have
looked at the "EXPORT SERVER" command and would like to avoid using it to
export backup and archive data files. Currently all data file are on an
optical library and we plan to unplug it from one machine and plug it into
another. Can I simply copy the ADSM database (FTP and NFS mount) from the
old server to the new one and then import the policy, management class, etc
from the old server using the command
"EXPORT SERVER FILESATA=NONE DEVC=8mm_tape. (8mm_tape is a device class of
an 8mm tape).

Environment:

AIX 4.1.5
ADSM 2.1.0.12
