The export/import functionality was designed to do this.  I think it was
primarily intended to allow the movement of ADSM from one server platform
to a different server platform, i.e., from MVS to AIX.

The last question you asked re. moving files.  Yes, you would need to have
an identical layout with respect to pools, db volumes, log volumes, etc.
 However, once you had all of this on the new system you could reconfigure
it by creating new volumes, deleting old ones, etc.  This might actually be
easier than doing exports and imports.  The problem is having enough room
if you have a bunch of data in the pools.  But you can minimize this by
doing your migrates to tape before you start the move.

You need to preserve directory path and file name information across the
platforms in order to do a simple move like this.  But other than that I
think this will be pretty smooth.
