Toronto ADSM User Group Meeting
Thursday May 7th
IBM Auditorium, 3600 Steeles Ave East (North side of Steeles, East
of
Hwy 404)
Agenda
08:00 Continental Breakfast
09:00 Robert Wilson, VP Business Development,
CoreData Inc. of Phoenix, Az. will introduce RemoteWorx for ADSM.
RemoteWorx (Gartner Group 'Best of Breed' review) allows a company
to
extend
the reach of ADSM to backup and retrieve data on remote and mobile
systems. It uses a unique patent-pending technology that detects
and
only backs up the changed bytes. This can reduce the transmission
90%
or more compared to traditional or changed backups. The software
can
be set up to configure a client for automatic, invisible backup
(the
way it should be).
10:00 Break
10:15: Chris Crumpin
A member of our User Group, Chris will discuss his experiences with
AD
SM on AS/400, including some of the problems and challenges. 10:30
Mike McIntyre of the IBM Lab Mike will discuss Capacity and
Performance reporting. ADSM is used at the IBM Toronto Lab to back
up
DB2, application development, and Internet products for Unix,
Windows,
and OS/2 platforms. An ADSM capacity and performance tool was
developed using DB/2, REXX and Lotus Approach. Historical data,
growth
rates and activity are charted. These charts are helpful to judge
when
a new ADSM server or hardware upgrades need to be installed. Mike
will
demonstrate how these reports are used.
