The ADSM Manuals say,

exclude.dir     Specifies a directory that you want to exclude from backup 
services only.
                Use this option when you have both the backup-archive client 
and the HSM client installed.
Have you both the backup-archive client AND the HSM client installed?

Hi,
I'm trying to get exclude.dir working. On my AIX 4.2.1 I have an ADSM
V3.1 backup client. The server is still Version 2.1.5.

The problem: dsmc incremental ignores exclude.dir statements.
To test it I did  a "touch /dev/hugo" command.
dsm.sys looks like this:

/usr/lpp/adsm/bin/dsm.inex looks like this:
exclude /.../core
exclude /.../*~
exclude /var/dce/security/creds/*
exclude.dir /var/dce/security/creds/
exclude.dir /dev/

Now when I do a dsmc incremental I see the following in the log:

Incremental backup of volume '/'
ANS1898I ***** Processed       500 files *****
ANS1898I ***** Processed     1,000 files *****
Normal File-->                 0 /dev/hugo [Sent]
Successful incremental backup of '/'

I tried to use the exclude and exclude.dir statements in the file
dsm.sys. I got the same result. I have a user with an ADSM V3.1 client
on a solaris system. He claims that even the exclude statements are
ignored. The questionable directories are not mountpoints and not symlinks.
What's going wrong?
