Hello all.
We are in the process of upgrading our VAX based infrastructure to NT 4.0
servers on Intel processors with NT 4.0 workstations on the desktop. We have
21 sites in the UK which all have a LAN bandwidth of 100 Mb/s. All these sites
are networked together over the WAN with bandwidths ranging from 128 Kb/s for
the very small sites (2 - 3 NT servers) up to 2 Mb/s for the larger sites (15
NT servers). The idea is to manage everything from a central systems
administration site.
Our backup strategy requires that we will back up all NT servers and the
storage management tool we will be using is ADSM V3 on NT. However, because of
the constraints of the WAN bandwidth, we are forced to deploy an ADSM server at
each site with its own DLT tape library. This will then be responsible for
backing up all NT servers on that site via the LAN.
My questions are as follows:-
Does anybody else have a similar situation to this?
What sort of problems could I expect in remotely managing several ADSM servers
(and the associated tape libraries)?
What are the issues concerning the offsiting of storage pool copy and database
backup tapes for disaster recovery purposes (i.e. server to server
communication)?
Anything else I should think of?
Regards
Phil
