Subject: TCP/IP questions

I am new to ADSM and have some questions about how the client and server
communicate via TCP/IP. When we define a new client on the server side we
do not tell the server what the IP address for that node is. But, on the
client side we put the IP address of the server (MVS for us) in the dsm.opt
file. So, I can see how the client finds the server, but how does the
server know where the client is. We schedule nodes to be backed up using
the scheduler on the server. The way I understand the scheduler is it
tracks when nodes are to be backed up and goes out to the node when it is
time and tells the node to start backing up. The node then does as it is
told. If this is the case, how does the server know where to find the
client if it has not been told the IP address for the client?

Thanks,

Nancy
