We had the same problem with our DLT7000 on NT.

IBM recommended the firmware level of the tape drives
be at 60 or above.

Ours was at 45.  After getting to level 60 this cleared up the errors.

Hi ADSM-ers with AIX
we are installing an ADSM-Server on AIX and we see, that
ADSM has no proper EOV-Processing. Am I dreaming or is this
the real truth.
Tape full >>> write error >>> tape is in error-state an no more
useable/tape is not marked full
On th other hand we are using an MVS-ADSM Server and I havent seen
such a phaenomenon.
