I tried compression on NT (not UNIX) and the penalty was enormous.  I
didn't actually measure it carefully because it was of the order of 5
or 6 times the elapsed time and there was no way that was going to be
acceptable - the network simply had to have enough bandwidth or else!
 Mind you, playing with it is very easy.  You simply add the option to
the dsmopt file and try again.  As I say, in my case the result was
instantly self evident.
