Hi,
The V.2 client for SGI IRIX states that (quote from the readme,
sgi.v2r1m6.IP20995.README):
SYSTEM
~~~~~~
This package runs on the IRIX Operating System Version
5.2. Version 5.3 and IRIX 6.2 are also supported,
except for the feature provided by the XFS file system
allowing file system sizes larger than 2 GByte and file
sizes larger than 2 GByte.
So, we have V5.2/5.3/6.2 support (except for the previously discussed
restriction on XFS fs with fs/files > 2GB).
If we look at the V.3 client (which can work with V.2 server, so one can just
upgrade the server), we read in the README:
The backup/archive client requires the following software
in order to run:
IRIX UNIX 6.2 (+ X/Motif for the GUI)
No mention of any specific fs restriction, but no mention of IRIX 6.3/6.4.
Now, for those who are not aware, SGI has (hopefully this will end within
half a year or so) the tendency to have an OS version per group of h/w
types (eg, O2 stations need IRIX 6.3, Octanes and Origin 200 - IRIX 6.4).
What about support for these ? 6.2/6.3/6.4 are usually regarded as "similar"
OS levels, but not identical, of course. Can one safely use the V. 3 client
on them ?
Thanks for any input,
/Zvika
