Hi Frank,

I've not heard of MVS running under AIX on SSA
disks?
What IS possible is that the disks might have
been
used under O/E MVS but then it does not run AIX -
The
file structure is HFS - and is seen as such to
MVS - just
a new type of file structure...

So, to get back to your question, no, you can not
install
the AIX client under MVS and backup the files to
MVS,
although you can backup the AIX if it is
somewhere on
the network to ADSM on MVS - as you probably
know.

To backup these files you need the Open Edition
ADSM
client and the server code which you say you
already have.
The benefit of using the ADSM O/E client is that
you can
run backups of single "unix" files in the HFS
file system,
and thus restore single files. Without this
client you
can use IBM utilities like DFDSS to backup the
filesystem
but then you restore the complete file system.
Hope this has helped in some way, and not
confused the
issue more!
