Have you tried to do a restore with this process? I ask because I didn't
think this would work. ADSM uses the Volhist file to determine which volumes
to use for the restore - and the copies wouldn't be there.

We considered using a program to duplicate the tapes, including header and
vol-ser, but haven't done this yet.....

Yes, I copy the dbbackup tapes after a full backup. I send the copies
offsite and keep the orginals onsite. My full backups are to specific
volumes, and the copies are to specific volumes. The copy jobs are
submitted by my system automation tool, triggerred by message ANR5208I.
The copy job jcl in 'sys1.proclib' is --

//ADTCOPYP PROC TI=,TO=
//GENER0   EXEC PGM=IEBGENER
//SYSPRINT DD  SYSOUT=*
//SYSUT1   DD  DSN=ADSM.BFS,DISP=SHR,UNIT=3490,
//             VOL=SER=&TI,DCB=(BUFNO=50)
//SYSUT2   DD  DSN=ADSM.BFS,DISP=(,KEEP),BUFNO=50,TRTCH=COMP,
//             UNIT=3490,VOL=SER=&TO
//SYSIN    DD  DUMMY

Greetings everybody,

  Does anyone using ADSM MVS V2 make copies of the database backup tapes?
We are looking at using IEBGENER or FATAR to copy the daily database backup
tapes to an offsite location. If anybody is currently doing this, please
let me know
how you accomplish this and your experiences.

Thanks,
