Subject: ADSM, NT and Logical Drives

This is the latest information from the NT Adminsitrator considering ADSM who
has been having problems getting ADSM to recognize their logical drives. I
passed along Pete Tanenhaus' information to her and she has now set everything
up as follows:

There is something wrong with the NT account we created called ADSMTEST. When
we run the service with this account we get access denied to each file that
tries to backup. What I'd like to do, is talk to an NT resource on what we
have done to create this account. Here are some details.
This account belongs to the following groups;
Local Groups -
Administrators
Backup Operators
Global Groups -
Domain Admins
Domain Users
We added this user account to the following user rights.
Access this computer from network
Back up files and directories
Log on as a service
Manage auditing and security log
Restore files and directories
This does not include the user rights given at the group level. (Domain
Admins, Backup Operators, Administrators, Domain Users).
We then gave this user, ADSMTEST, permissions to the root level of each drive
to be backed up. We gave Read Authority.
We also gave the user right - Manage auditing and security log - To the local
Backup Operators group.
Until we can get some answers, please only run the 7:00 nightly schedule. I
don't know how to formulate this question to post on ListSRV, but we are
missing something here in this setup. Let me know if there is anything I can
do.

Does this shed any more light on what she is having a problem with?

Betsy
