I'm not sure how to respond!!  I would be writing to a tape (that should go
to another tape if it overflows?) from a primary DASD pool.
My whole copy process seems to break.

The amount of data you are trying to copy, does that exceed the
available amount on the tape? If yes, then it will not go. I had similar
problems with migration.
