We perform reclimation processing on our offsite tapes over the
weekends. This process usually takes from 4 to 10 hours, depending on
how much data is being moved.(We use 20gb DLT tapes) We keep offsite
reclimation set to 100%, and use the scheduler to reset it to 60% for
the processing, to insure that we can combine all the data from two
tapes onto one. (If you set it to 40%, and have two full tapes that have
40% reclaimable space, then you will wind up with 2 new tapes, one full
and one at 20%)

Assuming that you have a primary storage onsite, and keep copy pool
tapes offsite, you don't need to bring offsite tapes onsite. As long as
you mark all offsite tapes as offsite, ADSM will use your local primary
tapes to create the new tape(s). You then send the new tapes offsite and
have the empty tapes returned for scratch.

We perform reclimation for onsite tapes as needed, a volume at a time.

The time required depends on the speed of your tape drives, and the
capacity of the tapes.
