As I understand it, NetWare stores files with  long names in the short
format, and keeps internal information to translate the name back to a long
format.  As you probably know, the long file name is available when th efile
name is restored, but that doesn't help when you are trying to figure out
which one of several files with the same first 6 characters to select.

I **think** that the guys here use the Win95 explorer, to identify files, as
it shows both long and short names?  --  I say I think because I use NT, and
my servers don't use the long file name support.  Some of the customers do,
and have restored files with it, but I don't know more about it than that.

It would be ideal for ADSM to do as you suggest - but I'm afraid the info is
not easily available to them.
