Tom,
We had to move back and forth between 2.1.5.x and 2.1.0.x on 2 separate
occasions and didn't experience any problems... the 2.1.5.x code was a
little buggy early on but has been solid of late... on every occasion we
did take a database backup prior to making the move but, as I said,
didn't run into any problems.
Regarding the performance issues, while the 2.1.5.x code is supposed to
run better than the 2.1.0.x code on SMP boxes, I don't think it will
address the performance issues you mention. Have you checked the usual
list of performance related parameters in your DSMSERV.OPT file such as
logpoolsize, bufpoolsize, txngroupmax, movebatchsize, movesizethreshold,
and uselargebuffers ?? For storage pool migrations/reclamations,
increasing the values for movebatchsize and movesizethreshold can help a
lot.
