Has anybody else encountered problems retrieving archived files
back into automounted directories?

We have the situation where we regularly move data from one file
system to another on our file servers. These projects are also
periodically archived, and when we do so, we provide the
automounted directory name to the 'dsmc archive' command--so we
don't need to remember on which filesystem a particular project
was mounted when it got archived.

The problem that we've run into, however, is upon retrieval of
the data. If you ask ADSM to retrieve the data to it's original
location, ADSM complains that a file exists where it wants to
write a directory (i.e. the symlink created by the automounter is
in the place of the directory).

This problem is, of course, compounded by ADSM's inability to
restore a directory structure to a location other than the
original one. Because of this, I find that I have to retrieve
files and ask ADSM to prompt me on a per directory basis, and
then prepend the '/tmp_mnt' location to the archived file name.

Has anybody else run into this problem. If so, have you
discovered any better workarounds to the problem?

ADSM has been very, very good for us, but it is the few
significant problems such as this that make us reconsider our
backup solution from time to time.

Thanks in advance. -- Tom
