We're doing backup and recovery planning for a new offering. Is there a
rule-of-thumb for how much response-time would increase on an application while
doing an on-line backup? We're trying to decide whether to do the backup
on-line or off-line. If we do it off-line, and do the full backup it would take
5 hours to our current backup device (tape device with a .5M/sec data transfer
rate). But, if we do it on-line, can we expect decreased performance from our
application?
