1. You have a limit on the size of a file that can be written to disk, with
the larger files going directly to tape.

2. You have a file that is larger than the disk pool (probably not very
likely)

3. You have a file that is larger than the amount of free space left in the
DASD pool.

I have also seen situations where problems with the file caused this condition.
Specifically, this happened on a Windows 3.1 machine - the FAT table became
corrupt, and reported that the size of a particular file was 1GB (not bad for a
250MB hard drive). Since my total pool size at the time was 1GB, the attempted
backup of this file was to tape. The moral here is that if you think you
shouldn't be going to tape - you don't fit one of the three possibilities above
then go look at your disk and make sure there are any "broken" files out
there. Obviously, the scenario I described could happen on any platform - not
just Windows.

          Question:

          When running a backup from 1 of 18 Novell clients on-site I
receive a message in the activity log.

04/09/1997 01:35:08 ANS4118I Waiting for mount of offline
          media....

I have a schedule reporting the status of the storage pools
every hour. Notice the time in the above message. At 1:15
          the schedule reported

          4/09/1997 01:15:04 ANR2753I (SCHEDNAME):
          Estimated Capacity (MB):
                                    2,399.9

          04/09/1997 01:15:04 ANR2753I (SCHEDNAME):
                      %Util: 9.9

          04/09/1997 01:15:04 ANR2753I (SCHEDNAME):
                      %Migr: 7.5

          04/09/1997 01:15:04 ANR2753I (SCHEDNAME):
                  High Mig%: 85

Why is it wanting offline media??

          Any solutions will be helpful..

          Thanks
