If you use the NetWare Client, and have installed the level 6 code - (IP20988)
If you use the NetWare Client, and have installed the level 6 code - (IP20988)
 Please beware of the following:

We have discovered that the Bindery is not being backed up on our servers from
the normal LOAD DSMC SCHEDULE process.

This is further compounded because many of the external ways to view this
report otherwise. For example, the DSMSched.log says that the Bindery was
backed up successfully. If you do a Q Filespace on the NetWare client, the
results will say the bindery was backed up. Similarly, if you look at the
filespaces from the admin client, the filespaces will also show that they were
backed up. *** BUT **** if you try to do a restore (for example LOAD DSMC
RESTORE BINDERY -PICK -INACT ) You will find that the last backup available
was either the result of a selective backup, or the last incremental that was
done prior to the upgrade to level 6. I discovered the missing backup by
accident when I looked at my server console and discovered that there were no
"closed and open" messages for the Bindery when ADSM backs it up.

IBM is aware of the problem, and have taken APAR IC16969 for this problem if
you want to track it. Additionally, IP20988 has been marked PE (PTF in Error
to you non-mainframe types).

IBM suggested the following work around:

In the mean time, I'd recommend that you define a new schedule and
associate all of your NetWare clients to it. The schedule should have
ACTION=SELECTIVE and OBJECTS=BINDERY. This will provide temporary relief
until the fix is ready. I don't have a timeframe right now, but think
 "soon".

Fortunately, we have only one known level 6 server, and I will back it off to
level 5 as soon as I submit this.....

Of course you could also do a selective backup of the Bindery each day........
