This topic has been discussed directly and indirectly in the past, but I have
not read any direct discussion on it recently. I would like a centralized,
cross-platform restore GUI for ADSM. I know I can use the admin client to
schedule restores to any ADSM client, but you must know exactly what you want
to restore and the syntax of the restore command. I want something that works
just like the Backup GUI client, but can view any data file type for any ADSM
client and can initiate the restore through the scheduler. It seems that the
functions to do this exist but have not been combined. A new option on the
admin client under the Central Scheduler called 'Restore/Retrieve' that looks
like the GUI backup client is what I am looking for.
I am a consultant and have installed ADSM for several customers. The size of
the ADSM environments range from a small NT server to a large 3466 server (3466
is a very slick product BTW). All of the customers want a centralized GUI
restore function. Many want their help desks to perform restores for users on
any platform.
Is there a way to do this that I am not aware of? Is this a feature that IBM
is working on? How are other people handling this issue? Some competitor
products have this feature; it is an essential function for an enterprise
backup solution.
Thanks in advance for your time and input. Special thanks to IBM for providing
this fantastic information tool.
