Julie,
Are you using a tape management system to control ADSM tapes?
If not, then this won't help you.
We have set up CA-1, with ADSM defined as an EDM using permanent
retention, and the HLQ in the Device Class for Offsite tapes is
plugged into the CA-1 vault suite.(This HLQ is different to the
onsite tapes).
ADSM uses scratch tapes in the Storage pool.
The sequence of events is this :-
An admin schedule runs to mark any tapes for offsiting as offsite
UPD VOL * ACC=OFF LOC='comment' WHERESTG=storage_pool_name
WHEREACC=READW,READO WHEREST=FULL,FILL
(CA-1 would VAULT these anyway, based on the DSN.)
An admin schedule runs to mark empty offsite tapes as scratch
UPD VOL * ACCESS=READW WHERESTG=storage_pool_name
WHERESTATUS=EMPTY WHEREACCESS=OFFSITE
CA-1 Vault suite runs, newly created 'offsite' tapes are vaulted
and empty Offsite tapes are flagged for return.
It works for me!!
