Why is it that I can only format a data base volume/file in a JFS
environment to just over 1GB ?
Have I missed something somewhere ?
The logical volume is 128 LP's at 16 MB each with 4096 NBPI
(last I calculated that should hold a 1979 MB adsm db )
& I've seen what I'd call a performance miracle...
previous placement of the adsm db & log files was rather poor...
well, monday I finished a little work on one of the servers and it cut
I/O wait time on the processor by more than 50% :-)
this adsm box has a 8 GB db and a 1 GB log (yes, the log is overkill)
configured as follows:
A0 --[2-1GB dbfiles]-[2-1GB dbfiles]-[1-1GB log]-[stgp]-...
SSA0
A1 --[2-1GB db]-[2-1GB db]-[stg]-........
B0 --[stg]-[stg]-...
B1 --[stg]-[stg]-...
A0 --[2-1GB dbcpy]-[2-1GB dbcpy]-[1-1GB logcpy]-[stgp]-...
SSA1
A1 --[2-1GB dbcpy]-[2-1GB dbcpy]-[stg]-........
B0
B1
I'm tossing @ 22GB to the wind currently because we're using 4.5GB
drives but it will be used to store adsm historical data...
Truely, I was amazed at the difference it made by spreading out the
DB. I strongly suggest others try it, espically if you currently
trying to be dasd conservationists and have everything on 1 physical
device.
