The same thing happens to me, it appears that when you start the scheduler
from the command line it puts dsmerror and dsmched logs to the root directory.
You are right that you can redirect dsmched but you can't dsmerror.  When the
system uses the cron.sh script provided by somebody that the dsmerror.log and
dsmsched.log go to the default DSM_DIR path that is in your environment
variables.
