Kevin, to back up Informix in an SAP R/3 environment you would use the
same tools as in a non-SAP environment. For details on how to back up
informix, I suggest you get redbook SG24-4335, "Using ADSM to Back Up
Databases". But let me give you an idea about your alternatives.

The main Informix V6 backup utility, onarchive, does not work directly with
the ADSM API. If you wanted to use onarchive, you can back up to a file
and then have ADSM back up the file. Another alternative is to use ADSM
to directly back up the files that comprise the database....this would be
an full, offline backup approach. Most informix shops are installed on file
systems, but if you are installed on raw devices, you would either have to
use onarchive or use an unsupported utility called ADSMPIPE that backs up
raw devices directly to ADSM.

Things will get better in the future. A new informix release due out later
in the year, 7.2.x, will contain a new backup utility called onbar, that
works directly with the new ADSM x/open API. This will be supported for
AIX and Solaris platforms initially. Target availability of 7.2.x is
3-4Q96. The ADSM x/open API is already available for AIX and Solaris clients.
