All,

My unix admin is interested in ADSM's capabilities in backing up their DFS/DCE
environment. I've combed pretty well (I think ...) thru the ibm doc (including
redbooks...) and can't find anything on this. I put a question in thru
ibmlink
on ASKQ so I do know this is supported - I just can't find doc on how/what!

I've read with interest the comments on AIX vs MVS for adsm server. Our cpu
stats show adsm using .01% during the day. We use expinterval 0 and use the
expire inventory command after hours. When expiration processing is running
we're using about 2% of a very big Amdahl machine. I also keep an eye on the
server stats in terms of recovery log size and address space size to prevent
a lot of page thrashing on the database. We go directly to tape with our
backups
and may use disk pools for our migrated data.

In this respect I've read with interest the discussion around turning off
collocation to cut down on the number of "filling" tapes - we have about 500
tapes with about 100 in filling status.

We just went to version 2 and I'm going to look into the txn parms on the
server
and client side. Appreciate any comments/experiences on this, also.

ADSM - Cheaper than a flu shot without the redness and swelling! :-)

Thanks,
Dave.
