I don't understand this comment ( & attitude ).
The impression given is that VM does not support TCP/IP clients.

VM *supports* TCP/IP.   We run backups from (almost) all of the clients IBM
has delivered (whether V1 or V2) to VM by-way-of TCP/IP.
