Chris (Hopkins)....

1) You should be able to share the 3494 library while ADSM is in use BUT
you won't be able to share actual tape drives. The tape library
has its own smarts (a pc) and can receive robotic
commands from multiple applications and can synchronize these. However,
the drives are driven directly by the application (eg, adsm) thru the dev
driver and cannot synchronize multiple accesses. Therefore, you could
do the sharing you speak of only if you have an extra tape drive in the
3494 to be used by other applications (or delete the drive from adsm and
then reattach it later...definitely manual intervention).

2) you should be able to talk with the 3494 library using the
standard library commands like mtlib and mtquery (even while
adsm is active). The interfaces to the tape drives would have
to be through the tape device driver...but again...this cannot
be done to a tape drive in use by ADSM...
