Hello,

I am running the VM server L1.11 and Sterling Software's VM:TAPE. I
have successfully integtrated the two for backups to a storage pool.
I am now trying to integrate them for DUMP DB processing. I have
defined a deviceclass named DUMPDB. On the VM:Tape side I have a
pool named ADSM.DUMPDB containing a set of tapes that I would like
to use. In the DSMEXIT machine, when I issue a DUMP DB DEVCLASS=DUMPDB
and NO tape volumenames, I see a request for tape volume DUMPDB.1 with
a StgPoolName of DUMPDB. I could trap the StgPoolName=DUMPDB requests
and substitute a tape volume name of SCRTCH which would allow VM:Tape
to pick an available tape(s) from the pool. Is anyone doing such a
thing?!? This would allow, I believe, as many tapes to be used as neede
and let VM:Tape keep track of them. However, how will I expire a set
of tapes? Will I be able to specify the tape names for a LOADDB?
Is this the way to go??

Any and all help appreciated. Sorry for any confusion in my posting. W
set ADSM up for internal computer center use only, and mostly have
ignored it. Now we are getting ready to let it out and getting back up
to speed will take me a bit.

Thanks,
