ADSM cannot directly back up data stored on raw devices. By one mean
another, the data stored on raw devices must be converted into one or
file system files.
There are two techniques to accomplish this.
The UNIX dd command.
The RDBMS backup utility.
If you use dd to create the file system file, you can back up at the
tablespace level. Because there is no RDBMS overhead, using dd may b
faster than using export. If you use export, you can export at either
the table, database, or user level, but not the tablespace level.
Whichever technique you use, remember that current releases of AIX do
not support file system files larger than 2GB.
