DESCRIPTION

Support for Additional Clients

The addition of the new client support offers more opportunities to
take advantage of the backup, archive, and recovery functions of
ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager.

These new clients, with the exception of Sequent PTX, were recently
announced with the ADSM for AIX and ADSM for MVS Version 2.1 servers
and are now available with the ADSM/VM and ADSM/400 Version 1
servers.

Refer to Software Announcement:

o 295-212, dated May 30, 1995, for ADSM for MVS Version 2.1

o 295-209, dated May 30, 1995, for ADSM for AIX Version 2.1

Incremental Backup and Recovery of Lotus Notes Databases

The ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager Lotus Notes backup agent helps
you protect your Lotus Notes databases (.NSF databases) by using the
backup and recovery services of ADSM. With this feature you can:

o Back up only those portions of a database that have changed since
   the last incremental backup

o Restore selected documents from a database

o Restore documents that have been deleted but not yet purged from a
   database

o Restore a copy of an entire database

o Merge backup copies of documents into a database file restored
   through the ADSM client

The ADSM OS/2 backup-archive client and the ADSM Lotus Notes backup
agent can run simultaneously on the same workstation. This approach
is useful because each application provides capabilities that the
other does not. For example, the ADSM client can back up or archive
an entire database, but not individual portions of it. The ADSM
Lotus Notes backup agent can back up and restore smaller pieces of
data (notes), but it lacks archiving capabilities.
