I am beginning to look at the SMF records generated for our MVS
ADSM server. There are two record types generated -- type 30,
subtype 2 for the adsm address space and type 42, subtype 14
for adsm client sessions. If I understand the SMF manual
correctly, the CPU time under the task control block on the type
30 records is given in hundredths of a second and the cpu time
on the type 42 record is given in seconds. During the intervals
in which about 300 mb of data was migrated the total cpu time
used was about 2 sec. When I looked at the data for the client
sessions, the average cpu time was about 15 seconds and the
average amount of data for each session was about 5 mb. The
amount of cpu time to process client data seems out of all
proportion to the amount of cpu time needed to migrate data
from a disk storage pool to a tape storage pool. Does anyone
know if by any chance the documentation in the ADSM manual which
says that the cpu time is given in seconds is wrong, and that
actually the cpu time on the type 42 records is in hundredths of
a second?

Thanks.
