SQL-BackTrack On-Line Demo System
Instructions
*********************************

DataTools provides an evaluation system for testing and demonstrating
SQL-BackTrack for Sybase or Oracle.

You can either telnet to the system or use a modem to dial in to it.
Our world-wide web page (http://www.datatools.com) will also give you
access to our demo system.

To telnet to the DataTools evaluation system:

                telnet demo.datatools.com

To dial in with a modem, call (415) 842-9126. Your
communications parameters should be set to 8 bits, no
        parity.

When you connect to the demo system, the following screen appears:

Welcome to the DataTools Evaluation System.

The products which can be evaluated using this system are:
        1. SQL-BackTrack for Sybase
        1. SQL-BackTrack for Oracle

Note: what you type, and the output you see, is being logged.
This is so that if you run into a problem with the demo, we
        can help you resolve it.

Which product do you want to evaluate?
To evaluate SQL-BackTrack for Sybase please enter 1.
To evaluate SQL-BackTrack for Oracle please enter 2.

        Please enter your choice.

Enter the number that corresponds to the product you want to evaluate.
Then, type "demo" at the system prompt for a guided demonstration of
SQL-BackTrack.

You can exit to the shell to use isql (Sybase) or Server Manager
(Oracle) commands to modify databases. After you have backed up a
database, you can use UNIX commands to remove database files and then
recover them with SQL-BackTrack. Any changes you make to the dtabases
or disk files will be undone when you disconnect, so feel free to perform
destructive testing.

If you have questions or need help while using the system, call DataTools
Technical Support at (415) 842-9117 during normal (7am - 5pm Pacific
Standard Time) business hours. Technical Support can also be reached on
support AT datatools DOT com

Although SQL-BackTrack supports backups to disk, tape and various storage
management systems, the demo system can only send backups to disk. This
lets us reset the demo to its previous state when you have finished
evaluating SQL-BackTrack.

SYBASE DEMO NOTES
*****************

The SQL-BackTrack control directory is a file structure that contains
instructions for backing up databases and database objects. Once a
control directory has been created, you can run backups using the
dtsbackup command with the name of the control directory and any other
dtsbackup options you want to use.

On the demo system, control directories already exist for physical,
logical, and individual object backups of the user databases on the
server SYBASE491 (pubs2 and demo2).

You can use the existing control directories to run backups and
recoveries, or you can create new control directories with the
dtscreate command.

To get more information about commands you might want to try, type
more README at the system prompt. You can also access the following
SQL-BackTrack online man pages for more information on these commands:
dtsbackup, dtsrecover, dtsdump, dtsload, dtscreate, dtwatch, dtscheck.
At the system prompt, type man <commands> to view the man page for
any command.

*****************

The SQL-BackTrack backup profile is a file struction that contains
instructions for backing up databases. There are two types of backup
profiles: physical backup profiles and export profiles. You use a
profile to run backups with the obacktrack menu-driven interface.

On the demo system, physical and export profiles already exist for the
database ORADEMO. You can use these profiles to run physical backups
and exports, or you can create your own profiles using the obacktrack
menu-driven interface.

To get help from the obacktrack porgram, you can type ? at most program
prompts.

You can also access the following online man pages for more informatino on
these commands: obacktrack, dtobackup, dtocheck, dtorecover, dtocreate,
dtwatch. At the system prompt, type man <command> to view the man
page for any command.
