I also use SLIP to backup my home workstation. The important thing is
I also use SLIP to backup my home workstation. The important thing is
to communicate to the users realistic expectations. Anyone who has used
a product such as Mosaic over a 14.4 modem understands realistic
expectations.

Yes, I have some failures of SLIP, but I really don't notice them because
I use the scheduled dump facility which retries on failures. I have
arranged to have my ADSM scheduled window while I am getting my children
ready for school, so I feel no impact from the long dump whatsoever.

I would rather have a few failures and long dumps which don't affect
my personal time than to have no backups and worry, or to spend a lot
of time on floppy disk handling and management (or even tape
management, if I had a tape drive.) Plus ADSM automatically gets
the backup out of my house.
