We backup 3.5 GB on OS/2 data in about 12 hours using a VM server + APPC.
This is not satisfactory and probably related to the large number of
OS/2 objects (130.000+) and directories (20.000+) we have.
The slow rate is not really a concern for incremental backups, but this
can create serious constraints when doing a full recovery...

There could be many reasons for this poor performance (poor comms rates,
compression ON on a slow workstation, APPC or TCP/IP customization),
but if you've checked all these settings, I recommend you to consider
a new performance fix especially developped for the OS/2 client and
supposed to boost the backup and restore time.
This fix installs on the top of OS/2 client level 8.
There is no PTF number (!), but the module affected is OS2FXTST.
To which extent does it improve the backup/restore? I have to conduct a full
restore exercice to know exactly.
Ask IBM for this fix, it's meant to help a lot.
Another idea is to split the work accross 2 or more different clients...
