Hello,

recently I heard that it has been thought of offering an ADSM interface
to FTP. Does anybody know something about it? Does it mean that one can
FTP PUT files directly into the ADSM storage hierarchy?

If so, I would highly appreciate such a functionality. It would address
some of my major concerns:

Since there still is no VMS client, I could use ADSM/6000 to offer the same
service to our VMS users, I formerly offered via MVS/HSM (ie server
  migration).

What is the scalability of ADSM? Small tape libraries storing several TB
of data are available, but according to rules of thumb this would require
DB space in the 100 GB range! For many users, it is sufficient to build
an archive and give it to the ADSM-server. ADSM does not need to know
about all the files in the archive. I can build an archive (using my
favourite archiver) and DSMC ARCHIVE it, but using FTP, there would be no
need to temporarily store the archive on the client, because FTP can read
  it from standard input.

Maybe, there are other methods addressing these concerns. I would like
to hear about anything planned in this area.
