Subject: ADSM(ADSTAR) LAN , AIX , VM , MVS
Hi , does anybody out there have experience/plans using the ADSM(ADSTAR)
product for LAN (OS/2 servers and WIN3 workstations) and AIX file backup
and archive. We are putting together a study to layout the objectives
of such a product and whether we should run it on VM,MVS,OS/2 or AIX.
Specifically:
How are the SMS philosophies implemented , both within and
out of MVS , does ADSM talk to DFHSM or , as the documentation imply ,
does ADSM have its own SMS tool with SMS concepts inbuilt?
Is TCP/IP the fastest connection or are others as good for both
LAN and/or AIX?
We also wish to connect a tape robot as the lowest storage pool , are
there any particluar difficulties with that?
Additionally we will be piloting LFS for LAN data and will need to back
that up via ADSM also.
We would appreciate any feedback.
